I work on interactions between malaria parasites and their mosquito vectors. For instance, I have been working on the genetic and environmental determinants of vectorial capacity and competence in malaria vectors using the Anopheles gambiae - Plasmodium falciparum system. An ongoing effort in my research is to account for the natural diversity of vector mosquitoes-malaria parasite associations and to perform experiments in conditions that reflect nature as much as possible. I am especially interested in the interventions that may block the transmission of malaria parasites from the mosquito vectors to humans. The parasites in the mosquito are indeed in a delicate situation: they are less numerous and less polymorphic than in human and they have a short time window to be transmitted. These stages then appear as interesting targets.
